Laser Treatments for Men
Over the last decade, there has been a steady increase in the number of men undergoing cosmetic treatments each year, with laser treatments consistently ranking among the most popular options. In fact, nearly one out of every ten people who underwent nonsurgical cosmetic procedures in 2017 were men. Blame it on social media, dating apps, beefy superheroes or feeling old in an office where your colleagues continue to get younger— men are ready to talk about their concerns with their appearance, and many of them are prepared to do something about it.
Why are men so drawn to laser-assisted treatments when it comes to aesthetic improvements? It’s not just because “laser treatments” sound like something from a Bond film. Medical-grade laser systems like those utilized at world-renowned Sadick Dermatology in NYC offer some of the most advanced, cutting-edge technologies available in skin rejuvenation, body contouring and hair removal for men today. The modern man wants quick, safe and highly effective treatments that provide subtle enhancements to the way he looks. Laser treatments have the versatility to treat a wide range of concerns, offering short treatment sessions, noninvasive techniques and incredible results with little to no downtime, depending on the procedure.

What Type of Laser Treatments Do We Offer?
With such a wide array of laser systems and treatment options available, Dr. Sadick, along with his expert team, will help you determine the best possible solutions for your unique goals and concerns during your in-person consultation.
Laser Hair Removal
Generally speaking, men have darker and coarser hair than that present on the fairer sex due to hormones like testosterone. Grooming, shaving and “manscaping” can be a tedious and time-consuming task, and is often harsh on the skin. Laser hair removal works to eliminate unwanted hair on the face, neck and body, often with permanent reduction or elimination observed by our male patients. This can save you time during your morning routine, or eliminate a hairy back before it’s time to hit the beach.
Skin Resurfacing with Clear and Brilliant or Fraxel
While men’s skin is thicker than women’s and contains a higher collagen density ratio, both men and women will start to lose about one percent of their collagen each year after their 30th birthday. Generally speaking, women are likely to display physical signs of aging faster, but factors like sun exposure and genetics can quickly speed up the process for men. Laser skin resurfacing is a treatment in which heat-controlled energy is utilized to improve the overall appearance of the skin, reducing lines, wrinkles and blemishes by removing the outer layers of the skin. The strength of the lasers is typically broken into two categories; ablative, which removes exterior layers of the skin and provides more drastic improvements, or nonablative, which stimulates natural collagen production in the skin without removing outer layers.
Looking for an effective treatment with virtually no downtime and you can get back to work or go out for a night on the town the same day? Try our Clear and Brilliant or Permea. Willing to invest in more aggressive treatment with even better results? Ask about our Fraxel treatment, which offers faster results.
Radiofrequency Microneedling with “Intensif”
Microneedling with radiofrequency is a game-changing treatment for men who want overall facial rejuvenation, pore reduction, skin tightening, or to treat acne and acne scars. Microneedling creates tiny, microscopic channels into the skin anywhere from 1-3.5mm deep to create controlled micro-injury to the skin, allowing for collagen stimulation and rejuvenated skin as a result of the body’s own, natural healing process.
We recommend adding PRP to your treatment to expedite healing and enhance results. A series of three treatments, about a month apart is optimal. Mild to moderate redness post procedure that may last 2-4 hours. Mild swelling with flakiness can last up to a couple days, but for most people this isn’t noticeable to others.
Men are prone to storing fat in those hard-to-lose areas that are resistant to diet and exercise, such as the abdomen, side flanks, arms, chest and back. Smartlipo, or laser lipolysis, is a minimally-invasive, in-office liposuction procedure that works to strategically target and melt stubborn fat cells from within using controlled heat. Once liquefied, the fat is gently extracted through a suction device. Unlike traditional liposuction techniques, laser lipolysis actually works to tighten skin around the treatment area and stimulate natural collagen-production, so you can achieve a more defined, chiseled shape while simultaneously firming and smoothing your skin.
If Smartlipo isn’t for you, we also offer incredibly effective, non-invasive treatments to remove fat permanently, including New York’s best Coolsculpting and Sculpsure clinics. Coolsculpt works by freezing fat, Sculpsure just the opposite (it melts fat). Both have proven to be safe and comfortable, with minimal affect to your daily schedule. No surgery needed.
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) photofacials are laser treatments designed to transform pigment issues present on the skin and restore a more radiant complexion. This treatment is frequently utilized to treat concerns like sun spots, red splotches, age spots or skin conditions like rosacea- which men are at a higher risk of developing. This treatment emits multiple wavelengths of light energy beneath the skin to target pigment-producing cells, destroying hyperactive melanin-producing cells and dispersing the uneven pigment.
What to Expect During Procedures and Recovery
Laser treatments typically take between 30 minutes to an hour, depending on the technique and system used as well as the size of the area treated. With the exception of Smartlipo, which only requires a single session, most laser treatments for the skin and hair will require a series of between three and six sessions over the course of several weeks or months to achieve optimal results. That’s not to say you won’t experience benefits from one treatment, you will, just that optimal results are often achieved with a series of several treatments.
While you may experience minor bruising, redness or some discomfort for a few days following your procedure, most of the laser treatments we offer are minimally or non-invasive. By utilizing only a local anesthetic or topical numbing agent, you can experience the immediate benefits of your treatments without having to take too much time out of your busy life.
How Long Do Laser Treatments Last?
How long the results of your laser treatment will be determined by a number of factors, such as the type of laser system selected for the procedure, whether ablative or nonablative lasers were used, your targeted treatment areas and how closely you follow your aftercare plan following your procedure. If ablative lasers are used, it may require a few weeks or months for the skin to fully display the results. However, you’ll likely notice a visible improvement to your skin’s appearance and quality, with results that last for years.
If a nonablative laser is used for your treatment, the results will typically progress over time following completion of the recommended number of treatment sessions. While not as immediate and drastic as the results of ablative lasers, you’ll start to see more and more improvements to your skin’s texture and pigment with each treatment.
Aftercare for your skin is of the utmost importance when it comes to maintaining your refreshed appearance. We know that NYC is a fast-paced place to live, but know that treated areas will be highly sensitive to sun exposure for a year following your treatment, so you’ll need to be proactive to ensure skin is protected to lessen the risk of reversing your results.
