In addition to treating varicose veins in the legs, endovenous laser treatment can also be used to treat unwanted hand veins as an alternative to sclerotherapy or phlebectomy. By delivering laser energy to the venous wall, the localized tissue of the unwanted vessel is damaged, and the vessel is eradicated.
Indications for Endovenous Laser Ablation of Hand Veins
This procedure may be recommended for you if:
- You are bothered by unsightly or protruding hand veins
- You are in good health with no disabling conditions of the hands
During EVLT for the Hands
This procedure is typically performed in an office setting. Both hands can be treated during the same visit, or you can choose to schedule to have each hand treated during individual appointments.
Before EVLT hand rejuvenation treatment, your physician will place a tourniquet above your wrist and help you identify and mark the bulging, unsightly veins that can be removed. A cannula and catheter are then inserted into the vein, and tumescent anesthesia is used for comfort. A laser fiber is introduced into the catheter and activated as your physician pulls it across the vein for approximately 20 to 40 seconds.
After EVLT for Hand Veins
When the procedure is finished, your physician will apply a hand dressing that will be worn for about four hours. After the dressing is removed, you may need to wear a light compression glove that is sized appropriately for your hand.
